description
A strong affinity to the New Zealand bush along and the harbour views attracted our clients to the site. The house is configured to follow the land contours, with garaging and bedrooms on the lower level and living spaces and main bedroom above. The house was positioned down from the top of the site to be out of the predominant wind and to allow for native planting to be established providing even further shelter to a North-West facing courtyard. By providing a similar pitched roof to that of the landscape the house grows out of its bush setting.
With the views of the harbour being to the South East the house was restricted to a one room depth allowing the spaces to maximise both the views and the late afternoon and evening sun.
Light materials, forms and colours have been used so that the upper section of the house appears to float above the main body of the house. The lower portion of the house is treated in a stronger manner creating connections to the ground.
